Proof

Someone told me (it might have been a comment on this blog) that they had seen dogs climb ladders, but had never seen one descend a ladder.

Well, here ya go:
That's Mocha, one of my favorite working dogs. He's pretty compact and is pretty bad-ass for his size. By bad-ass I mean fearless.

It is a tough thing for a dog to enter through the rear ramp of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter while the blades are turning. It's loud, it's hot - the exhaust from the turbines gets pushed down by the rotor wash, it smells of burning jet fuel and it's very windy from the rotor wash. Plus, the helicopter is trying to shake itself to bits while on the ground. Mocha never batted an eye, he is mission focused. The other dogs do pretty good as well.

I realize that the climbing angle of that ladder is not very steep, I have another shot of Mocha descending a ladder, that one is a little steeper. I just can't find it.

I can also tell you that wiener dogs suck at climbing ladders. I'm just sayin'

Thanks for reading,
Schmoe

  1. If it makes you feel better Basset hounds have a hard time tackling stairs... i'd be afraid what would happen if my Bassett, Daisy, tried a ladder! Her little legs are so short she's probaby get stuck after two rungs!

  2. Wiener dogs suck at pretty much anything besides being yappy and annoying. Although I've never seen one between the halves of a sandwich roll. That might suit them, in areas of the world where dogs are habitually on the menu. If you want a dog, don't get an hors d'oeuvre. I'm just sayin'. :)

  3. Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Hey now NYEMT lets not get viscous! Wiener dogs are excellent ratters and will hunt down any subterranean varmints that may be bothering you. Since we have had the herd, we have had no marmots, badgers or mongoose on the property.

As far as flavor goes, Wiener dogs taste OK, but they are a little stringy. I much prefer the marbling and texture of the Labrador family, a more uniform flavor that goes well with a nice Rose.
